It's a long time since I have come across a team of people in a hotel so committed to making sure we had a good time. Nothing was too much trouble. The hotel is family run and owned. It is unusual in that it is spread around the village, with high quality finishes in the rooms and air con, wi fi etc. Nice lunch and excellent breakfast choice, with real focus on quality ingredients. This will be our first choice next time we are in the mountains of Liguria.

This hotel operates to a far higher standard than its official star rating suggests. The two most wonderful aspects are the staff: helpful, cheerful, unfailingly polite and offer help at every turn, whether that is with luggage or a recommendation for a restaurant. Second are the facilities. Great room (in one of the separate blocks which only has two rooms). Small but adequate pool and garden. Wonderful breakfast and afternoon tea with just about everything homemade. Lengthy lunch menu and comprehensive bar list. Evening meal not available but after all this, who needs it? Borgomaro is a quiet and relatively poor village. This is a great place to get away from it all. What the Americans used to call "R&R". I have rarely read so much in so few days and am delighted to have been there.

We stayed here in room 12 for 2 weeks 10th-24th June. We originally wanted to stay on the coast but decided to give Relais del Maro a try as everyone seemed to love it. We couldn't find fault with this hotel. The owners Piera and daughter Elena were excellent hosts and could certainly teach a thing or two to other hotels of a higher star rating. All the staff from receptionist to maids also gave us impeccable service - especially lovely Viola who made our cappuccino each morning and always served us with a smile. We didn't ever have to tell anyone our room number - all the staff just appeared to know who was staying in which room. Our room which wasn't in the main building was lovely and quiet and although we could hear the church bells it wasn't too loud. A highlight for us was sitting on the terrace in the evening to the sound of church bells and ducks in the river watching all the comings and goings of this rural community. We felt like we were on the film set of Cinema Paradiso or something similar. The lunches were delicious and the afternoon tea with homemade cake and biscuits was a very welcome treat. The pretty garden was an ideal place to relax but on days when we felt more energetic we went off up the mountains armed with excellent written instructions provided by the hotel. We were made to feel totally at home here and will hopefully return one day.

We stayed for one week in the suite at Relais del Maro with our two children aged 2 and 4. What a beautiful hotel! Our room(s) were spacious and beautifully equipped with all you needed and the location was lovely. Breakfast was delicious. Home baked bread, different cheese/meats/cake every day, variety of croissants, coffee, hot chocolate, wide variety of teas, prosecco, juices readily available. Lunches were also lovely and well priced. The wines were nice too! All staff were exceptional and couldn't do enough to help. Our favourite day was spent lounging in the sunshine at the pool, relaxing in the lovely garden and enjoying a nice lunch. You do need a car to travel around but that suited us as we like to get out and about anyway. We would love to stay here again!
